The 7 Paths:
After the formation of the Alliance the member worlds enacted a mandatory membership into one of seven religious beliefs. Citizens who refuse to belong or do not demonstrate valid reasons for their lack of participation in one of the religious “Paths,” are arrested and placed into labor camps on outlying worlds. The seven Paths were substantially derived from the preexisting member worlds’ most dominant and philanthropic beliefs. Each was assigned it’s own “home world,” training centers and Alliance sponsorship. Because of the diverse nature of these Paths, citizens were encouraged to express their diversity and freedom within the expression of their beliefs. Individual liberty and direct so-called freedom of speech was outlawed.

One of the oldest religions from one of the oldest societies in the galaxy, the Deridian faith has long held the position of the most well-skilled artisans of combat. Although their practices are seen by most to be inhumane – including the desecration of the bodies of their fallen enemies – the results are unmistakable. Its highly loyal and pious members are kept that way by strict policies of behavior enforced from within the Path itself. Should a member be found in regular disobedience, they are quickly thrust out of the Path, Alliance authorities notified, and ultimatums given to join another Path. Deridians find many of their disciples as children on refugee worlds or war-torn colonies where starvation and exposure would otherwise kill. As a result, their followers have a built in loyalty for the Path saving their lives. This also allows for the extremely brutal training to have such a small wash-out percentage. Deridians are committed if nothing else. However, because of their extreme religious views regarding their enemies, the Alliance military disallowed Deridian involvement until most recently. Consequently, Deridian conscripts possess the highest marks in combat and the lowest marks for following orders.
On the whole the individual Deridian is not cunning or conniving, and you can expect their generosity and kindness to be boundless. You can also expect your life to be cut short if you challenge them.
